White Tomatoes Gaining Attention for Their Natural Sun Protection with Phytoene and Phytofluene

If you're longing for fair, radiant skin but hesitant about treatments like injections or cosmetic procedures, it may be time to turn your attention to an emerging trend in skincare—edible whitening supplements. Among them, white tomatoes are gaining global attention as a skin-brightening food that works from the inside out.

As we age, skincare requires a more comprehensive approach. Dull and uneven skin tone can make one look tired, unwell, and even older than their actual age—especially when dark spots, freckles, and pigmentation issues worsen. And during brighter seasons like spring, such imperfections can be harder to conceal with makeup, adding to feelings of frustration.

With the current weather being perfect for outdoor activities, protecting the skin from UV exposure is more important than ever. Spring’s high UV index increases the risk of pigmentation, premature wrinkles, and photoaging. Without proper care, the skin can suffer from sunspots, freckles, and visible aging.

UV radiation is one of the primary culprits behind accelerated skin aging. Unlike natural aging, photoaged skin shows more severe and earlier signs of damage. Sun exposure rapidly breaks down elastin fibers that keep skin firm and youthful. Although sunscreens are essential, their effectiveness can be compromised by sweat, contact with clothing, and the need for frequent reapplication—making them impractical during long outings.

As a result, white tomatoes are being spotlighted as an innovative solution in the world of edible skincare. Unlike red tomatoes, white tomatoes contain high levels of phytoene and phytofluene—colorless carotenoids that naturally occur without genetic modification.

These rare compounds are known for their ability to block both UVA and UVB rays, suppress melanin production, and provide strong antioxidant benefits. They help improve overall skin tone and promote a brighter, more even complexion. Because they are colorless, phytoene and phytofluene are considered rare among carotenoids. They naturally exist in the human body—in the skin, blood, and other tissues—but must be obtained through diet, as the body cannot synthesize them on its own.

Numerous international journals have confirmed the whitening effects and mechanisms of phytoene and phytofluene found in white tomatoes. Studies show that these compounds reach skin tissues via the bloodstream after ingestion. In one clinical study, 12 weeks of supplementation resulted in up to 82% skin-brightening improvement, while another showed about a 20% reduction in UV-induced skin irritation (erythema).

Supplements made from white tomato powder are now being sold as beauty and sun-protection aids by leading global brands. These products have been featured in multiple beauty and wellness magazines, further raising expectations for white tomato as the next-generation ingredient in inner beauty and skincare solutions.
